Physical methods of generating oxygen include the cryogenic method, pressure swing adsorption (PSA) method, and membrane osmometry. Among them, the cryogenic method has the disadvantages of high energy consumption, high equipment costs, and complex operating procedures, and is therefore not easily portable. Compared with membrane osmometry, the PSA method offers the notable advantages of producing high-purity oxygen gas and employing inexpensive, easily-obtained adsorbent materials.
